Biography

After beginning his musical studies in his hometown of Annecy, Laurent Wagschal entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he received two First Prizes in the classes of Yvonne Loriod and Michel Beroff for piano, Jean Mouillère, Christian Ivaldi and Ami Flamer for chamber music. With encouragement from Leon Fleisher, Jean François Heisser and Jean Claude Pennetier, Laurent Wagschal set out on a career as soloist and chamber musician that has brought him considerable attention.
An award-winner of the Groupe Banque Populaire Foundation, he as won numerous international prizes and appeared as soloist with the Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux, Orchestre Pasdeloup, Solistes de Paris, Orchestre de la Cité Universitaire de Paris, Orchestre d'Auvergne, Poznan Philharmonic, Orchestre Classica of Moscow and the Kaliningrad Symphony Orchestra.
Laurent Wagschal regularly appears in prestigious venues (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Théâtre du Châtelet, Musée d'Orsay and Radio France in Paris, Grand Théâtre of Bordeaux, National Music Auditorium in Madrid, Carnegie Hall in New York, Seoul Dongsoong Hall, Tokyo Opera City Hall, Tokyo Oji Hall, Osaka Phoenix Hall…) and at numerous festivals (La Roque d'Anthéron, Bagatelle Chopin Festival in Paris, Midem in Cannes, Les Arcs, Piano ŕ Riom, Périgord Noir, Heures Musicales du Haut-Anjou…)
As chamber music enthusiast, he has played in particular with Nicolas Dautricourt, Svetlin Roussev, Raphaël Perraud, Bertrand Raynaud, Fabrice Bihan, Nicolas Baldeyrou, Kazunori Seo, in "Sorties d'Artistes" ensemble, Zellig ensemble or in Saxiana Trio.
His affinities with French music have led him to devote a large place for it in his recordings, jointly with the hopes of helping rarely played composers to be discovered. His recordings include Florent Schmitt's piano music, Chausson's Concert and Mendelssohn's Double Concerto with the Auvergne Orchestra, Debussy's sonatas with Frédéric Laroque and Raphaël Perraud, Szymanowski's complete works for violin and piano with Nicolas Dautricourt , three sonatas for cello and piano by Fauré, Poulenc and Magnard with Eric Maria Couturier and French music for flute and piano with Kazunori Seo,
